With 6 hop additions and over 14 pounds of grain we expected this IPA to be good, but when we opened the first bottle even we were surprised at how good.  The aroma from the late hop additions hits right away.  A strong, bright white head remains persistently atop the golden / amber medium body ale.  The bitterness is moderate at 69 IBU, and well balanced by the crystal malt.  ABV is right on target at 7.4%.  We will be brewing this beer every few weeks here at East Coast Homebrew.  We just can’t keep it in the fridge.

Get it right the third time.  Pale Ale #3 is the result of tweaking the ingredients and hop additions until we got it just right.  This beer has the color, flavor and aroma that all say classic american pale ale.  Adding cascade hops during the fermentation was the last adjustment that turned #3 into our #1 kit.  Brew and enjoy!  OG 1.049

First brewed for a returning Peace Corps volunteer, Peace Corps Pale Ale is a slightly copper ale, well balanced in flavor while remaining lighter in body.  A deliciously refreshing ale.  OG 1.050

IPA (extract)

Mad 44 Black IPA (all grain)

PCPA (all grain)

This IPA has light malt profile, and golden color achieved by holding back on half the extract to late in the boil. Dextrose brings up the OG without adding color or sweetness. Aggressive hopping, with late additions and dry hopping bring the bitterness and aroma to the forefront. It looks good, it smells good and it tastes great. It’s a lot of hops, so we recommend increasing the boil volume as much as your brewpot can handle. Also racking to a secondary for the dry hopping is advised but not essential. It’s a lot of hops. Brew and enjoy!

Brown Sugar (extract)

1 lb. steeping grains, 6 lb. of extract and 1 lb. of brown sugar give Brown Sugar its rich body and foamy head. Two hop additions provide moderate bitterness and aroma. The color is a deep amber that you just see through when held to the light. Brown Sugar is a hearty satisfying American brown ale.
